Trujillo
It was in the year of 1502, ‘Christopher Columbus’, the historic figure arrived at this place. From then onwards the place began to grow economically and slowly it became one among the few ‘new world capital cities’. Because of this many ‘British Pirates’ were attracted to this place. For protecting the ‘Spanish Patrimony’ and safe-guarding the interests of the nation from the pirate raids, the ‘Santa Barbara Fortress’ was built and even now you can see it without any major loss or destruction. It was from here in 1860, an American ‘William Walker’, who took troops into Costa Rica and Honduras for amassing wealth, was shot dead in front of a firing squad.
The arrival of the illustrious ‘Garifuna people’ marked an important turn in ‘Trujillo’s’ economic development. Presently we can see them at ‘Santa Fe’, ‘Guadalupe’, ‘Punta Betulia’, ‘Puerto Castilla’, ‘San Antonio’ and ‘Barrio Cristales’. There are so many tourist attractions in ‘Trujillo’ like the ‘Capiro y Calentura National Park’, ‘Guaymoreto Lagoon’, ‘Punta Castilla’ and ‘Punta Betulia’. You can also have trips to many different communities which will give you the interesting nature of ‘Garifuna people’.
