TELA
This is a wonderful ‘port city’, which is situated in the suburbs of ‘Atlantida’ and the area is famous for its beautiful ‘white sand’ beaches. This place is also having historical importance, because of being the venue of the ‘banana boom’ of the early 19th century.
‘Tela’ is situated at a distance of 90 kms from the international airport of ‘San Pedro Sula’ and is having almost a distance of100 kms from ‘La Ceiba’. ‘Tela’ was the headquarters of the ‘Tela Railroad Company’, who marketed the famous ‘Chiquita’ brand. You can still see the residential complexes of the executives of this company, under the new banner of hotel and villas, still preserving the old style, thus giving the new ‘Tela’ a special nostalgic effect of being the part of the old ‘banana republic’. ‘Tela Railroad Company’ has given ‘Tela’ another asset and that is the ‘Lancetilla Botanical Garden’, which is the second largest ‘Botanical garden’ in the entire world. Apart from this ‘Tela’ has got three fantastic spots connected to ecotourism. They are the ‘Los Micos Lagoon’, ‘Jeanette Kawas National Park (Punta Sal) and ‘Punta Izopo National Park’.
You can also visit the wonderful villages like ‘Rio Tinto’, ‘Miami’, ‘Tornabe’, ‘San Juan’, ‘La Ensenada’ and ‘Triunfo de La Cruz’. From all these villages you can pick up some good knowledge of ‘Garifunas’. ‘Tela’ also has got a ‘Garifuna Museum’ from where you will get more awareness about ‘Garifunas’.
