| TELA
A
beautiful Port City in the prosperous Department of Atlantida, known
for its lovely white sanded beaches, as well as for historically
being part of the “banana boom” that sprung in the early 19th Century.
Presently Tela is having
an awakening tourism wise, it is located at 90 kms from San Pedro
Sula´s International Airport and 100 kms from La Ceiba.
There is more to Tela than its beaches, it was the base of operations
of the Tela Railroad Company producers of the “Chiquita”brand, now
the Hotel and Villas Telamar preserved what used to be the residential
complex for the executives of this company, giving Tela a distinct
flavour of being part the banana republic.
The Lancetilla Botanical
Garden is also an important inheritance that this company has left
Tela it is the world’s second largest tropical botanical garden,
also Tela gives us three ecotouristic beauties: Los Micos Lagoon,
Jeanette Kawas National Park (Punta Sal), and Punta Izopo National
Park.
And to add to our list of
attributes we have the Garifuna Villages of ; Rio Tinto, Miami,Tornabe,
San Juan,La Ensenada, Triunfo de La Cruz . These are part of the
Garifuna Route, that begins in Bajamar, Cortes to Plaplaya,Gracias
a Dios.
Tela has its very own Garifuna Museum to help illustrate a better
understanding of this unique culture.
